I was out visiting a young person at home this evening, when my ankle gave way under me while crossing the road. Luckily the cars stopped for me, as I picked myself up off the floor trying to maintain a resemblance of dignity (although no-one was actually concerned enough to ask if I was okay).
I limped to the address, only to be told after all that, that the issue I’d been asked to help with had all been sorted out in her review week ago but she’d forgotten to let me know that I was no longer needed, so I had spent half an hour on the bus, two minutes on my knees in the road, and the rest of the afternoon limping and yelping in pain for nothing.
While I’m very glad that the issue of concern has been sorted out to her satisfaction, in some ways I was disappointed, as I was hoping to use a future appointment with her for one of my direct observations (when my practice teacher observes me working directly with a service user, to assess my skills, and the person also provides feedback on my practice- part of the assessment process for my placement).
I am now sat with a pack of frozen broccoli on my ankle, desperately hoping the swelling goes down by the morning and I am able to walk comfortably again. I am on a training day in London with the other two project staff, in preparation for running an art workshop with our young people. Should be fun, as long as the venue is close to the tube station!
Hope your ankle feels better soon!
In some kind of weird synergy, I tripped over crossing the road on my way to work yesterday and have an inflated and grazed knee and elbow – so I am feeling your pain (quite literally!). I didn’t get much sympathy either but there were a couple of workmen guffawing charitably..
