Well, as this is my first post on this my new blog, it seems prudent to introduce myself to anyone who may just happen to be reading my ponderings.
As the blog title suggests, I am a social work student, in the first year of a postgraduate degree at a university in the north of England. My previous background includes many years as a young carer and an adult carer, first for a mother and then a husband, a few years of purgatory in the civil service, several years of personal disability and recovery, five very happy but frustrating years in the CAB (I will no doubt explain why this time was frustrating as well as very enjoyable in another post) and then the last four years in which I have gained my first degree and begun my social work training.
I’m 37, very happily single now, and finally feel I am doing what I should have been doing years ago. Not that I feel I have wasted any years of my life, nor regret not pursuing a social work career earlier- my various life experiences have all contributed to making me the person I am today, and will hopefully forever remind me of the reasons why I want to become a social worker.
